Book Review: Jade Kerrion’s Perfection Unleashed

Perfection Unleashed (Double Helix, #1)Perfection Unleashed by Jade Kerrion
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you enjoyed watching Alphas and Heroes, or you’re into comic books, then chances are you will enjoy this.
Perfection Unleashed follows the story of a group of superhumans, set in an alternate reality were mutants, clones and human derivatives are struggling to find acceptance amongst society. Okay, so the premise isn’t the most original. It definitely resonates with X-Men and Alphas on the whole persecution of people who are different thing. What sets the stall for this particular novel is the strong characterization and well developed world building.
The plot is centered around the development of a perfect genetically engineered human which has the pro-human lobby in uproar. When a beautiful female mercenary springs the genetically perfect human from his holding cell, she sets in motion a chain of events that brings together a disparate group of superhumans to uncover the dark secret behind the human lab rat’s creation.
The story is well written, with good plot twists and excellent descriptions of powers. The story could have perhaps stronger by focusing on a fewer perspectives, but that is a subjective opinion. The only thing letting this book down is the cover, which makes reference to Michael Angelo’s Sistine Chapel, but fails to do the story justice.
I look forward to the sequel.
