2025 Projects

Its been a pretty good year for me. But for the world, It’s been a tumultuous and disturbing one. Humanity seems to be losing … to itself. Despite the best efforts of scientists and science fiction authors, we continually move towards self-destructive tendencies. Climate change, wars, human rights violations, famine. And Donald Trump is yet to re-enter the White House.

Let’s instead focus on 2025. I intend to launch back into my writing career. I have a few projects that hope to begin and to complete. Starting with a rewrite (from scratch) of something I wrote as a teenager. It was my take on the Aladdin story, mainly based on the One Thousand and One Nights original, but also influenced by the Disney version. My own version was called Alauddin. The plot is basically the same, except I have injected a few more Islamic themes into the story, which I believe have been stripped from it through the various translations it went through before arriving in the 21st century. I also plan on re-interpreting a number of other stories from One Thousand and One Nights of the coming years.

Project 2 is one that I have had bouncing around in my brain for over a decade. The working title is Farmer, Soldier and its a bit of an epic fantasy. It will focus on the lives of four teens from a village in a pseudo South-Asian country. I’m currently developing the characters and will keep you all posted on the progress. Its likely going to take at least a couple of years to get this one done. Farmer, Soldier will be a standalone novel, but there will be other books in the future set in the same world, with the main characters from each book crossing paths at different stages of their lives.

Project 3 is more of an act of love. I am planning to begin researching the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and write his biography in a narrative style. I hope this format will make it easier for people to read and learn about the Prophet of Islam, and understand why he is still so important and beloved to Muslims 1400 year after his time on Earth.

Let us hope and pray that the coming year is a much more fruitful than the one we are about to leave. That the Palestinians finally get some sort of peace and freedom from occupation. That Ukraine also gains its liberation and peace for its people. That the multiple conflicts in Africa finally achieve peaceful resolution. That the peace in Syria is real and is a sign of better times to come. That we, as a species learn to live better with one another and care better for our planet.
