KICKSTARTER Diary Day 5

I got a response from Kickstarter today. Embarrassingly, I got flagged for AI use. So today’s lesson is to make sure to disclose when you have used AI.

I used Gemini to produce mock-ups of what the books may look like, using the artwork produced by my artist daughter, who currently goes by Velenyx on social media. I even mentioned it in the image descriptions and alt-text in a few of the images. This is what actually caught their attention. So, I got a message today suggesting that I should fill out a disclosure form and make sure that all the images that have AI elements should be identified clearly. The images do not represent the finished product and a merely there as placeholders and illustrations of what they may look like. Here is the original artwork:

Notice that all of the images feature the Gemini watermark. If I wanted to cover AI usage up, I would have cropped the images. I also had permission from the artist to make the mock-ups. She was pleased with how they looked. It was done in good faith.

So, the lesson here is, disclose any use of AI in your Kickstarter. Be upfront and honest about how you’ve used it, and make it clear in your descriptions so that you are not misrepresenting the finished product.
